On Januaty 15 Minister Krzysztof Jurgiel met with the Minister of Agriculture of Hungary Sandor Fazekas at the Polish stand during the International “Green Week” Trade Fair in Berlin.

Minister Jurgiel presented the planned Polish priorities in the area of agriculture within the framework of the Presidency of the Visegrad Group, which Poland will hold from 1 July 2016.

The talks addressed the difficult situation on the agricultural markets, especially on the market of milk and pork.

Minister Jurgiel asked for Hungarian support of the Polish postulates concerning the simplification of the CAP. He announced that in the near future Poland will prepare an address to Commissioner Hogan on the difficult situation on the pork and milk market, and stressed that he counts on Hungarian support in this case.

The meeting also discussed a proposal to take joint action by industry organizations of Poland and Hungary in order to raise EU funds earmarked for the implementation of multinational projects in the field of promotion of agri-food products on the markets of third countries.

When discussing issues relating to GMOs, minister Fazekas stressed in this respect the convergence of both countries’ positions. Poland argues against GMOs in agricultural production and proposes the creation of common and homogeneous provisions that would give the opportunity to label “GMO-free” products appropriately.

The talks also touched the issue of direct sales. It was agreed that a group of Polish experts will go to Hungary in order to familiarise themselves with the arrangements of the Hungarian model of such sales.

When discussing the results of the Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organisation in Nairobi, which took place in mid-December 2015, Minister Jurgiel stressed that in Poland’s opinion, its findings in the area of agriculture do not provide for equal conditions of competition between the EU and USA. Diverse costs of production should be taken into account in decisions regarding the scope and scale of the liberalisation of trading conditions within the framework of the TTIP agreement.

The Polish Minister gave Minister Fazekas an invitation for the International Fair of Rural and Agricultural Tourism AGROTRAVEL which will be held on 8-10 April in Kielce.
