In Paris, on the sidelines of the OECD Ministers of Agriculture’s meeting, Minister Krzysztof Jurgiel met with the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Agri-Food Industry of France, Stéphane Le Foll.

They discussed the issues which would be the subject of a debate at the nearest Council of the EU Ministers of Agriculture and Fisheries, mainly with regard to the difficult situation in the milk and pork markets. Minister Krzysztof Jurgiel referred to the measures proposed to be taken following the AGRIFISH Council of 14 March 2016 in connection with the difficult situation in the agricultural markets and presented the Polish position in the field of individual instruments.

The French Minister of Agriculture expressed support for the Polish request to extend the deadline for submitting aid applications or payment applications by 1 month, as well as the request to modify the rules for the implementation of the planned support mechanism for the fruit and vegetable producers. Minister Jurgiel informed Minister Le Foll that Poland had joined the French proposal on the EU trade negotiations with Mercosur.

The Ministers also agreed that of great importance for the farmers’ situation in the EU would be a discussion on reviewing the current Common Agricultural Policy and its shape after 2020, in the context of the planned review of the Multi-Annual Financial Framework. Both parties declared their will to develop joint positions in that area.

In the further part of the meeting, the Ministers expressed their will to continue Polish-French cooperation in the area of agriculture, both under the bilateral and Weimar Triangle formula.

The French party proposed to establish a special team of experts from both ministries with the aim to develop a common position on the mechanisms for stabilising the market situation which should be implemented. Both Ministers expressed their will to continue cooperation also under the Weimar Triangle formula.

Minister Jurgiel suggested that the next meeting of the Ministers of Agriculture from France, Germany and Poland should be organised in the nearest future in Warsaw, which was positively accepted by the French party.
