The meeting was mainly devoted to the prospects of economic cooperation. Minister K. Jurgiel asked for support in the finalisation of the procedures related to the access of Polish agri-food products to the market of Sri Lanka as soon as possible and for indication of the cooperation areas by the Sri Lankan side. He also expressed interest in developing business contacts, declaring readiness to take actions to help establish business contacts between Polish and Sri Lankan companies in the food industry.
Ambassador Tissa Wijeratne confirmed interest of the Sri Lankan side in cooperation with Polish entities and emphasised that development of cooperation in the field of food processing is particularly important to the Sri Lankan agriculture. In addition, he stressed that his country is interested in import of Polish agri-food products, especially potatoes.
In terms of trade, in 2015 the value of agri-food products amounted to more than EUR 16 million. The main export products are chocolate and confectionery, and import product – tea.
